What to do when, while muskie fishing - (CLICK HERE to Read More)
Too many people catch a fish in a spot and just keep going to that spot and casting their brains out. Sometimes this isn't a bad thing to do, when it's the right thing to do. How do I know when this is the right thing to do? Well, I'll tell ya that experience has quite a bit to do with my decision making. The more times you see a situation, the easier you will recognize it. Every body of water tends to have certain things that seem to turn fish on in certain spots. Sometimes I know that when a certain type of wind is blowing into a certain bay at a certain time of year, I should be in there casting the heck out of it. Other times I know that a spot might be where fish are there all summer or year. I just know because of a change that

Bait versatility, selection and how to use it all to put more muskies in the boat.

Often times we get stuck in the rut of feeling good about one bait, because we have caught a few fish on it. Some times when we fish with other people, we even get everyone stuck in the same rut. Some times it's not a bad rut to be stuck in either. I guess if the rut fits, get stuck in it. In musky fishing though, there are many times when we aren't seeing action. Is it because we don't have a good feeding window at the time or maybe we just haven't thrown the right

Increase your conservation effort and you'll increase your catch rate, whether it's catching fish, catching rays or catching customers. - (CLICK HERE to Read More)
Every year I hear people complain about what they are not catching on certain lakes, or the condition of these lakes. We've all heard that the squeaky wheel wheel gets the grease, but somebody needs to be holding the grease gun and there also needs to be an ample supply of grease. If you've ever heard someone complain about something like this or you yourself may catch yourself doing it. It's easy to do, and totally understandable when you see your favorite lake or river going down hill, it's a bummer! I urge you to not get caught up in the negativity of it. Most of the problems that we see on lakes and rivers aren't quick fixes and negativity just sucks up valuable time.
Plan For Success - (CLICK HERE to Read More)
As a musky guide I am always thinking about musky fishing. In fact I think about it damn near 24/7. Some would probably call that a sickness. I call it the way to success. I’m not a full time guide like I’d like to be, but I have to be responsible with 4 kids and I work for the city. However I have been lucky enough to get out 17 times so far this year and hook into 22 fish.7/1/10 That is 129% lucky, or is it.

I tell everyone that 50% of my fish are caught on the figure eight. The reaction that I get from most people, is yea right. I even get this from people that claim to have musky fished for years. However that is my story and I’m sticking to it. So I’m going to explain why and how, and maybe you to can make fifty/ fifty your number as well.

That’s right you read the title correct. The word muskie was in there. Many people don’t think of this area when they think of muskie fishing. There just so happens to be two of the greatest places that I know of to fish these ferocious fresh water pigs. Petenwell and Castle Rock flowages offer some of the best action while muskie fishing due to the heart stopping action that you get from the many northern pike along the way. There are not too many places that you will receive the wicked strikes that you receive on the Wisconsin River.

Can you remember back to what it was that made you a musky fisherman? I bet if you think hard enough, it would have something to do with the fact that you started fishing. Now that you are a musky fisherman, I would like to pose another question. Have you ever done any thing to help improve your sport? I’m sure you probably have, as I’m not looking for a special answer here. If you have ever released a fish you have done something great.
C.P.R. - (CLICK HERE to Read More)
Tis the season to be in a hurry! I’m not talking about driving to the boat landing fast or flying across the lake at top speed. I’m going to talk about what I consider to be the most important topic on musky fishing during this time of year. C.P.R. Catch, Photograph and Release. Now for most of you who musky fish you know the importance of catch and release. How ever we will go over a few things to help everyone, even the avid musky hunter.
Throwing a change up - (CLICK HERE to Read More)
I’ve had plenty of days where everything fell in to place as if the planets were aligned perfectly and the Musky Gods were smiling down upon my boat. Or maybe it was the fact that I was doing everything right because that is what I knew worked best where I was at, for that time. I might add that some of these times seem stupendous in comparison to others; like when my client and I caught three fish in fifteen minutes; while having numerous follows all day long.
